The guys and Steve's little bro, Brandon talk about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. It's pretty clear that the hosts don't and haven't skateboarded to any degree in the past, but they have all played this game. Many gamers grew up playing this game on the PS1, and it was surprisingly popular back in the day and remains critically acclaimed even in 2025. The PS1 version holds its merit against the 2020 remakes with tight controls and additional collectibles (cash) that require more exploration in the levels. Just as the retired skaters featured in the game walked so skaters today could run, this game started a tradition and a wave of skateboarding titles that continues today. It's surprisingly deep, with customizable characters, ARPGs, a campaign mode, and even a skate park creator! The hosts all love this title and there is very little negative to say about it, unless you don't like skateboarding. This title enters the league with a bang, follow along to see where it goes!

Although Happney couldn't join us for the whole episode, here is his take: I think the key to fully appreciating this game is context. It came out a year after it's very successful predecessor WCW/NWO World Tour. It was a more polished product and came our when the WCW was reigning over the WWF in the head to head television ratings known as the Monday Night Wars. The grappling system used on the game was iconic and set the standard for all future wrestling games. The title did so well, it managed to get THQ the WWF licensing contract away from Acclaim until 2013. It's the highest selling wrestling game on the Nintendo 64, and the 26th highest N64 game ever. The polygonal appearance of the wrestlers was a sacrifice made to ensure much smoother gameplay than it's WWF competition. I actually have told Don and I think I've told Steve, this isn't even my favorite wrestling game, that would be WWF Smackdown 2, also developed by THQ, but this game is the middle evolution Pokemon. StarCraft was a sensation in the late 90’s and a staple of every PC Gamers’ repertoire. It took the already acclaimed Warcraft formula and brought it to a galaxy far far away, complete with hillbilly military prisoners, vicious bug-o-morphs, and sanctimonious ninja aliens. What started as a flagrant spoof on the Alien movies, Star Trek, Star Wars, and other popular sci fi vibes of the time became a force that ushered gaming and esports into vogue. Starcraft is also the gold standard in RTS design. It’s three races, the Terran (greedy, backstabbing humans), the Protoss (religious space ninjas), and the Zerg (a race of nope), all are distinctly different from one another but are somehow balanced competitively. This is no mean feat by today’s standards. Each game of StarCraft feels distinctly different from the last with varying terrain and having to reach deep into the capabilities of each race to conquer effectively.
