Ep. 56: Games with a Twist! | What are you playing?

Ep. 56: Games with a Twist! | What are you playing?

Don and Dan pester Steve in a geek out over the rom hacks they have been playing. They discuss Super Mariomon and the Mega Man X8 Demake, two passionate must-play fan projects.

Super Mariomon is a mushed-together experience of the Super Mario IP and Pokemon Gameplay. It's delivered in a passionate, polished package and it's obvious that the developers know what made each of these IPs magical. The setting and game mechanics are ripped from the aesthetics of nearly every Mario title from Super Mario 3 through Odyssey, even touching upon spinoff series' such as Super Mario RPG and the Mario and Luigi Series. There's even a Kong Kingdom to acknowledge the movie!

Mega Man X8 Demake is what happens when you bring Mega Man X back to his roots while updating those roots for 2025 sensibilities. It includes the base X8 storyline, while trimming some of the fat off the original title and includes levels for Gigabolt Man o'War and Avalanche Yeti. Other extra content comes in the form of Super Bosses, replayability with unlockable characters, and an updated control scheme.

Don and Dan discuss some epic fan projects while Steve has decidedly less fun. We talk about retro games and retro game topics most weeks, if you need that subscribe here or wherever you find podcasts.

1
00:00:01,040 --> 00:00:50,480
I.
Welcome to the cable club.

2
00:00:50,680 --> 00:00:53,200
We're a retro video gaming
podcast where three guys play

3
00:00:53,200 --> 00:00:56,520
non retro games too and we're
linking up to talk about the

4
00:00:56,520 --> 00:01:00,640
games you love and rank them.
This is episode number 56.

5
00:01:00,960 --> 00:01:02,480
We're your hosts.
I'm Steve.

6
00:01:03,160 --> 00:01:04,800
I'm Dan.
And I'm Don.

7
00:01:05,760 --> 00:01:08,000
And today we're going to talk
about what we've been playing

8
00:01:08,000 --> 00:01:11,720
this week, so get ready to
upload data from us to you.

9
00:01:12,640 --> 00:01:16,160
But first, pass it to Dawn for
Set in the mood.

10
00:01:16,320 --> 00:01:19,240
All right guys, ready?
This is for the dads out there,

11
00:01:19,400 --> 00:01:24,360
Your wife says on Thursday.
Hey, tomorrow night I'm thinking

12
00:01:24,360 --> 00:01:27,840
about taking the kid over our
friend over our friend's house

13
00:01:27,840 --> 00:01:30,680
to play with their kid.
Is that OK with you?

14
00:01:31,320 --> 00:01:34,800
And you think to yourself, Oh my
God, is that OK with me?

15
00:01:35,040 --> 00:01:37,000
I know exactly what I'm going to
do with all that time.

16
00:01:37,000 --> 00:01:40,160
And you say, Oh yeah, I guess.
You try to look as sad as you

17
00:01:40,160 --> 00:01:44,720
can, but as soon as you're off
work and she leaves with with

18
00:01:44,720 --> 00:01:49,120
the kids, you hop right on your
ROG Ally or your gaming PC or

19
00:01:49,120 --> 00:01:51,600
whatever it is.
You know, you grab and you sit

20
00:01:51,600 --> 00:01:54,880
right up on the couch like you
haven't sat since the day they

21
00:01:54,880 --> 00:01:59,080
were born and you play, you know
exactly what you're going for.

22
00:01:59,240 --> 00:02:01,000
And that's what we're going to
talk about today.

23
00:02:01,160 --> 00:02:04,280
The game that we know exactly
what we're playing.

24
00:02:05,400 --> 00:02:07,520
And I think we've got a line up
of games.

25
00:02:07,520 --> 00:02:12,360
So I think we'll just take this.
The three of us just kind of go

26
00:02:12,360 --> 00:02:15,320
one after the other.
Dan and I actually both brought

27
00:02:15,320 --> 00:02:19,000
ROM hacks to this, which I think
is super interesting.

28
00:02:21,080 --> 00:02:23,960
The game that I actually want to
talk about with with with you

29
00:02:23,960 --> 00:02:31,320
guys is a game mod produced by
AI think he's a Pokémon YouTube

30
00:02:31,480 --> 00:02:35,520
named alpha rad.
So he made a Pokémon emerald

31
00:02:35,520 --> 00:02:41,200
hack or he had a team make it or
whatever called Super Mario mod.

32
00:02:41,800 --> 00:02:44,000
And basically it's a Pokémon
game.

33
00:02:44,000 --> 00:02:46,160
And I don't know, I've, I've
played a lot of Pokémon ROM

34
00:02:46,160 --> 00:02:48,640
hacks and I'm, I'm not
discrediting the, the, the

35
00:02:48,640 --> 00:02:51,960
community like it's way like I
have no idea how they how they

36
00:02:51,960 --> 00:02:55,280
do it, but I don't know if you
guys are familiar with this at

37
00:02:55,280 --> 00:02:56,520
all.
But like they're all kind of

38
00:02:56,520 --> 00:03:00,520
like, oh, what if it was Pokémon
red with different Pokémon and

39
00:03:00,520 --> 00:03:05,200
gym leaders use good teams or,
you know, kind of a lot of tired

40
00:03:05,200 --> 00:03:06,720
ideas there.
There are some really

41
00:03:06,720 --> 00:03:10,280
interesting ones like Pokémon
Emerald Rogue, which turns the

42
00:03:10,280 --> 00:03:13,200
experience into a rogue like,
but then there's this one.

43
00:03:13,640 --> 00:03:16,240
They like designed everything
from the ground up.

44
00:03:16,240 --> 00:03:19,160
Guys, have you looked at looked
at any screenshots?

45
00:03:19,320 --> 00:03:24,800
So, so I looked a little bit,
are the moves like they're,

46
00:03:24,800 --> 00:03:26,720
they're still like Pokémon
moves, right?

47
00:03:26,720 --> 00:03:29,200
Or like did they like mod the
moves themselves too?

48
00:03:29,200 --> 00:03:31,400
There are some modded moves.
Oh, there are.

49
00:03:31,400 --> 00:03:33,120
OK, because I don't think I saw
any.

50
00:03:33,960 --> 00:03:38,240
Yeah, I, I, I don't think I saw
any before I started playing it.

51
00:03:38,600 --> 00:03:41,800
But like, basically from the
minute you turn the game on, it

52
00:03:41,800 --> 00:03:48,040
feels like Super Mario RPG.
Like they really, so they, they,

53
00:03:48,040 --> 00:03:51,880
they worked really hard to write
the game in such a way that that

54
00:03:51,880 --> 00:03:56,600
it feels like somewhere between
Super Mario RPG and, and like

55
00:03:56,600 --> 00:03:58,840
Superstar Saga style style
writing.

56
00:03:59,160 --> 00:04:03,080
And they redid all the sprites
and like, Bowser's there and

57
00:04:03,080 --> 00:04:05,160
like, this is so many Mario
characters in it.

58
00:04:05,160 --> 00:04:09,120
I think like I'm just a closeted
Mario IP fan and this is kind of

59
00:04:09,120 --> 00:04:11,120
really speaks to me, but I also
love Pokémon.

60
00:04:11,560 --> 00:04:13,720
But what I what what I love
about this game and playing it

61
00:04:13,720 --> 00:04:19,040
now is it gives me back that
feeling of playing like a

62
00:04:19,040 --> 00:04:21,040
Pokémon game when I was a kid
because it's not a lot of

63
00:04:21,040 --> 00:04:23,880
information on it.
So like you come up against the

64
00:04:23,880 --> 00:04:27,720
new enemy and you don't know
what type it is and what it's

65
00:04:27,720 --> 00:04:30,320
what it's going to use.
It just kind of gives you that

66
00:04:30,320 --> 00:04:33,800
or like how strong it is.
Yeah, I mean, that's also kind

67
00:04:33,800 --> 00:04:36,360
of, it's like almost like a
brand new Pokémon game with like

68
00:04:36,560 --> 00:04:39,520
all new typings and stuff too,
which you have to like it kind

69
00:04:39,520 --> 00:04:41,520
of like when you were a kid
where you had to like figure all

70
00:04:41,520 --> 00:04:44,920
this stuff out again because you
don't know what's weak to what.

71
00:04:44,920 --> 00:04:49,320
So getting to like relive that
is probably pretty cool too.

72
00:04:49,320 --> 00:04:53,320
Yeah, it looked pretty neat.
I looked at a video about it

73
00:04:53,600 --> 00:04:56,680
after you'd sent something in
the Discord and it does seem

74
00:04:56,680 --> 00:05:01,240
really interesting.
And like you know what you can

75
00:05:01,240 --> 00:05:05,120
tell that they have the passion
because they put so much into

76
00:05:05,120 --> 00:05:06,960
it.
Like the world map looks like a

77
00:05:06,960 --> 00:05:10,480
Pokémon map, but it also looks
like Super Mario RPG.

78
00:05:10,840 --> 00:05:14,480
And you know, the Sprite work is
really good.

79
00:05:14,480 --> 00:05:17,480
You know, you have Mario and
Luigi and all the all the, the

80
00:05:17,480 --> 00:05:21,240
characters from the Mario world
and they all look like their IP

81
00:05:21,560 --> 00:05:24,320
and I think they're all built
from the ground up from this

82
00:05:24,320 --> 00:05:28,480
team and it's pretty impressive.
The music too, though, like

83
00:05:28,480 --> 00:05:33,440
there's just Mario music in in
the game blended up that kind of

84
00:05:33,440 --> 00:05:36,120
sounds like Pokémon music.
Like it was composed for this

85
00:05:36,120 --> 00:05:39,160
ROM hack.
This is like so above and beyond

86
00:05:39,200 --> 00:05:41,600
a normal ROM hack.
It's crazy.

87
00:05:42,080 --> 00:05:47,120
And so it it, it starts when you
start a new game, it immediately

88
00:05:47,120 --> 00:05:50,040
with presents you with a with a
host of options.

89
00:05:50,360 --> 00:05:52,280
So here's here's how I've been
playing.

90
00:05:53,200 --> 00:05:55,200
The first option is level
scaling.

91
00:05:55,720 --> 00:06:01,960
So any, any trainer or I forget
what they call them, I'm going

92
00:06:01,960 --> 00:06:03,000
to, I'm going to call them
trainers.

93
00:06:03,000 --> 00:06:08,760
But like any trainer, you fight
their first, they call them

94
00:06:08,760 --> 00:06:11,240
captures, not not Pokémon.
They they they call them

95
00:06:11,240 --> 00:06:13,280
captures because the whole thing
is predicated on what was

96
00:06:13,280 --> 00:06:16,040
happening in Mario Odyssey where
he can throw his hat and take

97
00:06:16,040 --> 00:06:18,800
over an an an enemy.
So that's the in game

98
00:06:18,800 --> 00:06:22,480
explanation for how he's using
the minions to fight for him.

99
00:06:24,480 --> 00:06:27,440
Any anyone you fight their their
level scale.

100
00:06:27,440 --> 00:06:31,240
The first one that comes out to
be 3 levels lower than your Max

101
00:06:31,240 --> 00:06:33,840
level 1 or your your highest
level 1.

102
00:06:33,840 --> 00:06:37,080
And then the Mormons, they have
it increases by 1.

103
00:06:37,560 --> 00:06:41,400
So no matter how much you've,
you've like ground your, your

104
00:06:41,400 --> 00:06:44,000
troops up or like how, how
powerful you are, the, the

105
00:06:44,000 --> 00:06:45,800
enemies on routes will still be
a challenge.

106
00:06:46,800 --> 00:06:50,640
And you can turn EVs for those
trainers on and off.

107
00:06:50,960 --> 00:06:54,880
So their teams can be actually
like just harder with EVs.

108
00:06:54,920 --> 00:06:58,640
You know, attack, attack Mons
will have attack EVs and speed

109
00:06:58,640 --> 00:07:01,280
or whatever, right?
Or, or, or you can shut them

110
00:07:01,280 --> 00:07:03,800
off.
There's just a native Nuz lock

111
00:07:04,080 --> 00:07:07,280
that does all the things you
would have to keep track of

112
00:07:07,280 --> 00:07:09,320
separately doing a doing a Nuz
lock.

113
00:07:09,320 --> 00:07:12,560
And for our listeners who aren't
familiar, do you guys know what

114
00:07:12,560 --> 00:07:16,560
playing a Nuz Lock is?
Oh yeah, basically through it,

115
00:07:16,800 --> 00:07:17,760
yeah.
So basically we're.

116
00:07:17,760 --> 00:07:19,200
Not the only one talking.
Don't leave me out here.

117
00:07:19,440 --> 00:07:23,400
Yeah, obviously you guys know
more than me, but you can, you

118
00:07:23,400 --> 00:07:26,640
can chime in.
But basically what it is, it's

119
00:07:26,640 --> 00:07:29,960
like, I, I know there's like
different levels to Nuz locks,

120
00:07:29,960 --> 00:07:34,760
but like basically you have to
catch like the first Pokémon in

121
00:07:34,760 --> 00:07:36,520
it and in the area that you're
in.

122
00:07:37,160 --> 00:07:40,680
And then when that Pokémon
faints, you can no longer use it

123
00:07:40,680 --> 00:07:42,000
anymore.
So you have to like put it in

124
00:07:42,000 --> 00:07:43,960
the in the box or drop them or
what.

125
00:07:44,720 --> 00:07:49,120
And I think that's just like the
general consensus of an oven Nuz

126
00:07:49,120 --> 00:07:52,880
lock is where you cannot use a,
a Pokémon that has been fainted

127
00:07:53,480 --> 00:07:54,840
like it.
They're just gone forever.

128
00:07:54,880 --> 00:07:58,080
Yeah, and it depends on which
set of rules you're doing.

129
00:07:58,080 --> 00:08:02,280
They have all kinds of special
rules, like you can only use

130
00:08:02,280 --> 00:08:04,880
Pokémon Center the first time
you enter the town, or you can't

131
00:08:04,880 --> 00:08:09,160
use items.
You can't, you know, you can't

132
00:08:09,160 --> 00:08:13,720
over level a gym leader.
Like, you know, it depends.

133
00:08:14,000 --> 00:08:18,520
But the main premise of the nose
lock is, as Dan had said, first

134
00:08:18,520 --> 00:08:21,040
Pokémon on a rap to catch no
duplicates.

135
00:08:21,200 --> 00:08:22,920
And if it faints, it's gone
forever.

136
00:08:23,560 --> 00:08:28,720
See, so everything you guys just
said, all that depends is all

137
00:08:28,720 --> 00:08:33,120
built into this initial startup
menu and it's done so easily.

138
00:08:33,120 --> 00:08:36,000
So like it's like, Oh yeah, do
you want to play Nuzlok?

139
00:08:36,480 --> 00:08:39,960
And it's either no, yes, or
hardcore.

140
00:08:39,960 --> 00:08:42,880
And hardcore would be you can't
use items during during battle

141
00:08:42,880 --> 00:08:46,840
and it's set and and it tells
you that on screen.

142
00:08:46,840 --> 00:08:49,280
So even if you don't know what
you're looking at, you will know

143
00:08:49,840 --> 00:08:52,040
and then it'll say like
duplicates clause.

144
00:08:52,240 --> 00:08:54,680
Do you want to be able to catch
the same the same capture twice?

145
00:08:54,680 --> 00:08:57,320
Or do you want it to not count
if you enter a new route, right.

146
00:08:57,320 --> 00:09:01,040
So you can turn that on and off
and and like you can have it

147
00:09:01,040 --> 00:09:05,000
auto release or just keep him in
a graveyard in the box.

148
00:09:05,000 --> 00:09:07,240
You can see like what you've
what you've lost, right.

149
00:09:07,960 --> 00:09:10,360
And it's just like the whole
game was built with this in

150
00:09:10,360 --> 00:09:11,480
mind.
Because I don't know, I'd say

151
00:09:11,480 --> 00:09:15,160
like, I don't think any route
has any less than like 4

152
00:09:15,160 --> 00:09:18,400
different captures on it.
And most of the time they're

153
00:09:18,440 --> 00:09:21,840
they're new and you don't know
what they are like.

154
00:09:22,080 --> 00:09:25,680
So when you start the game, your
your 3 starters are piranha

155
00:09:25,680 --> 00:09:32,760
plant the the grass one, the BA
bomb is the fire one and the a

156
00:09:32,760 --> 00:09:35,840
blooper is the water one.
Interesting.

157
00:09:35,840 --> 00:09:38,680
And they're just pulled like
directly from from so.

158
00:09:39,120 --> 00:09:41,880
Can these minions evolve?
Yes, yeah.

159
00:09:42,080 --> 00:09:44,880
So like the Piranha plant line
ends up turning into like a PD

160
00:09:44,880 --> 00:09:47,480
Piranha kind of a thing.
If you're not familiar with PD

161
00:09:47,480 --> 00:09:51,520
Piranha, he's like the the big
piranha plant that walks around

162
00:09:51,560 --> 00:09:54,480
with the little body you see.
I think it's the first time he

163
00:09:54,480 --> 00:09:58,000
appears.
I think it's Mario Odyssey he

164
00:09:58,000 --> 00:10:00,800
might be in.
Might be sunshine.

165
00:10:01,160 --> 00:10:03,600
Yeah, might be sunshine.
Anyway, he's he's been around

166
00:10:03,600 --> 00:10:05,240
for a while.
PDPD Piranha is a household

167
00:10:05,240 --> 00:10:08,880
name.
And then the the blooper will

168
00:10:08,880 --> 00:10:10,720
turn into a king blooper
eventually.

169
00:10:12,200 --> 00:10:14,800
That's cool.
I like that and then with the

170
00:10:14,800 --> 00:10:18,000
mustache and everything.
The the the Babam will turn into

171
00:10:18,000 --> 00:10:21,000
the King Babam from Mario 64.
That's the one I was thinking

172
00:10:21,040 --> 00:10:22,920
of.
Yeah, and his, his, his middle,

173
00:10:23,360 --> 00:10:26,600
his middle evolution are like
the guys that that throw you,

174
00:10:26,720 --> 00:10:30,080
you know the big purple guys,
they grab you and throw you.

175
00:10:30,080 --> 00:10:33,080
From Mario 64, yeah.
And just like the, the, the

176
00:10:33,080 --> 00:10:36,320
typings are really interesting
too, like he's a fire electric.

177
00:10:36,520 --> 00:10:41,440
He ends up being, which is like,
I don't think ever been done and

178
00:10:41,440 --> 00:10:47,120
like I forget I, I, I think, I
think the PD piranhas like grass

179
00:10:47,120 --> 00:10:50,400
and I don't know, like fighting
a rock or something like that.

180
00:10:50,400 --> 00:10:51,920
I don't know.
It's neat.

181
00:10:52,960 --> 00:10:57,360
So like you can get goombas and
koopas, but the, the cast of

182
00:10:57,360 --> 00:11:01,160
enemies ranges, you know,
everything from like the Koopas

183
00:11:01,160 --> 00:11:05,480
and goombas from Mario 1 all the
way up to like the toast arenas

184
00:11:05,480 --> 00:11:08,360
from Mario Odyssey.
And there's like a whole host of

185
00:11:08,360 --> 00:11:11,240
N64 enemies like.
Rotom Heat.

186
00:11:12,480 --> 00:11:17,920
Oh, fair enough, Fair enough.
Rotom, Rotom Heat, so you know,

187
00:11:18,000 --> 00:11:23,160
new gym leaders and, and, and
you can put level cap on too.

188
00:11:23,160 --> 00:11:25,880
And like there's, there's in
game quality of life stuff like

189
00:11:25,880 --> 00:11:30,240
you just have a key item that's
just feed your man a, a rare

190
00:11:30,240 --> 00:11:32,800
candy.
But there's also a separate and

191
00:11:32,800 --> 00:11:37,120
NPC at the Pokémon Center that
lets you level your guys up to

192
00:11:37,120 --> 00:11:39,600
the current level cap and it'll
and and it'll tell you what that

193
00:11:39,600 --> 00:11:40,720
is.
Yeah.

194
00:11:41,280 --> 00:11:43,920
So like you want to level cap
it, you can.

195
00:11:44,080 --> 00:11:47,000
With all like the options to
make like the game harder, I I

196
00:11:47,000 --> 00:11:49,920
almost feel like you can make it
like borderline impossible to be

197
00:11:50,400 --> 00:11:53,720
like if you like cranked
everything up to like like you

198
00:11:53,720 --> 00:11:56,320
say, like you get like the
enemies can have or the trainers

199
00:11:56,320 --> 00:11:58,880
can have like EVs and stuff.
And then you can put on a Nuz

200
00:11:58,880 --> 00:12:02,160
lock And like, I feel, I feel
like it gets to a point where

201
00:12:02,160 --> 00:12:06,600
it's like you can't even like
win if you if you're like really

202
00:12:06,600 --> 00:12:09,320
like trying all the options.
Well, I think there are some Nuz

203
00:12:09,320 --> 00:12:11,360
lockers out there who are really
good at it.

204
00:12:11,360 --> 00:12:13,880
Yeah, you know.
I mean, it's good for them, but

205
00:12:13,880 --> 00:12:16,560
I just like, I just like I'm
hearing like all these things

206
00:12:16,560 --> 00:12:19,280
that you can do to modify the
difficulty and it's like, damn,

207
00:12:19,280 --> 00:12:22,800
dude, like.
But one thing I did turn on was

208
00:12:22,800 --> 00:12:24,880
if you black out, it deletes
your save.

209
00:12:25,600 --> 00:12:27,960
Yeah, that's.
Probably hardcore, yeah.

210
00:12:28,360 --> 00:12:32,920
Yeah, like like so not only if
you if you lose one of these

211
00:12:32,920 --> 00:12:34,720
captures, is it dead?
Dead for good.

212
00:12:34,960 --> 00:12:38,560
If you lose a battle, that's it.
It's like it's, it's back.

213
00:12:38,560 --> 00:12:41,280
It's back to the start.
And I've restarted 3 times right

214
00:12:41,280 --> 00:12:45,640
now.
I am I'm on world six of eight.

215
00:12:45,640 --> 00:12:50,240
So you know how in the Pokémon
games they have routes and all

216
00:12:50,240 --> 00:12:53,640
the routes have numbers.
So like the, the routes are all

217
00:12:53,640 --> 00:12:57,800
worlds and numbers.
So like you start out in the in

218
00:12:57,880 --> 00:13:02,920
in the Mushroom Kingdom or world
one and the first route IS11 and

219
00:13:02,920 --> 00:13:08,160
the next route is cool 1-2.
I kind of wish Pokémon did that

220
00:13:08,160 --> 00:13:10,520
because the route numbers like
don't mean anything.

221
00:13:11,120 --> 00:13:12,840
Yeah.
Like in Pokémon you don't

222
00:13:12,840 --> 00:13:15,360
remember all the route numbers
and it doesn't really matter.

223
00:13:16,240 --> 00:13:18,920
But that's I like that level
naming scheme.

224
00:13:19,480 --> 00:13:21,720
So what I'm curious about,
because it's like, obviously you

225
00:13:21,720 --> 00:13:23,560
have to like fight the gyms and
whatnot.

226
00:13:23,560 --> 00:13:27,520
Like how does that like tie in
like story wise, Like I, I, I,

227
00:13:27,880 --> 00:13:30,360
I'm sure you're not just why
you're collecting, you're not

228
00:13:30,360 --> 00:13:32,640
collecting badges, right?
Like you're, you're actually

229
00:13:32,640 --> 00:13:34,080
there's a story behind this,
right?

230
00:13:34,240 --> 00:13:38,840
So you're collecting power stars
from the various gym leaders,

231
00:13:38,840 --> 00:13:41,560
but the power stars were
previously collected in Mario

232
00:13:41,560 --> 00:13:45,200
RPG.
So after Mario Odyssey, because

233
00:13:45,200 --> 00:13:49,080
they figured out the cap
capturing people exists in that,

234
00:13:49,080 --> 00:13:52,320
in that like technology.
So everyone in this game is

235
00:13:52,320 --> 00:13:53,640
running around wearing one of
them.

236
00:13:53,920 --> 00:13:56,720
You know how like they're the
little ghosts that that that

237
00:13:56,720 --> 00:13:59,400
have the little eyes from Super
Mario Odyssey.

238
00:13:59,640 --> 00:14:00,360
Yeah.
Cappy.

239
00:14:00,720 --> 00:14:05,360
Yeah, they in any and Bowser has
his white top hat from the

240
00:14:05,360 --> 00:14:09,640
wedding outfit too, as as one of
the Cappies because Bowser's in

241
00:14:09,640 --> 00:14:12,920
it too.
So Peach enlist the help of

242
00:14:12,920 --> 00:14:17,160
Doctor E Gad, who is from the
Luigi's Mansion series, who

243
00:14:17,160 --> 00:14:19,280
makes the the vacuum that sucks
up ghosts.

244
00:14:19,560 --> 00:14:23,880
And sunshine he makes flood.
Yeah.

245
00:14:24,720 --> 00:14:25,960
Does he?
Yeah.

246
00:14:27,280 --> 00:14:29,840
Yeah.
So she enlists his help to put

247
00:14:29,840 --> 00:14:32,680
on a contest where everybody is
going to battle the dot,

248
00:14:32,680 --> 00:14:35,800
dogfight these minions.
And then it kind of gets deeper

249
00:14:36,560 --> 00:14:39,800
because Luigi starts out and,
you know, he's kind of your

250
00:14:39,800 --> 00:14:43,880
pseudo rival character.
He like and I I I just love that

251
00:14:43,880 --> 00:14:46,760
the game does this because it
does so many of the things that

252
00:14:46,760 --> 00:14:49,360
the Pokémon games I think
departed from.

253
00:14:49,800 --> 00:14:53,040
You know how like when you were
first playing Pokémon Red and

254
00:14:53,120 --> 00:14:55,880
Red and Blue like Gary would
just show up and surprise you?

255
00:14:56,120 --> 00:14:57,720
Your.
Yeah, is that, is that Luigi?

256
00:14:57,880 --> 00:15:00,160
Is that Luigi?
Like, like you forgot to go to

257
00:15:00,160 --> 00:15:03,040
the Pokémon Center and Gary just
without a warning comes up to

258
00:15:03,040 --> 00:15:06,640
you and you're like, Oh no, like
every time.

259
00:15:07,720 --> 00:15:13,600
The two times that was like the
worst is Pokémon Tower, because

260
00:15:13,600 --> 00:15:16,000
if you didn't save and you
didn't go to the Pokémon Center

261
00:15:16,000 --> 00:15:19,400
and you're all right after Rock
Tunnel, he could send your ass

262
00:15:19,400 --> 00:15:24,840
back to Cerulean City.
So it it it brings that back,

263
00:15:24,840 --> 00:15:28,400
but Bowser is also a rival.
So Bowser is is in there.

264
00:15:28,400 --> 00:15:32,840
He's not one of the gym leaders.
Peach, you know, basically sent

265
00:15:32,840 --> 00:15:35,920
an invitation out to everyone
who who is a gym leader and she

266
00:15:35,920 --> 00:15:39,240
said he wasn't going to read it
anyway, you know, because the

267
00:15:39,240 --> 00:15:43,480
writing is on is on point.
And he just he ends up battling

268
00:15:43,480 --> 00:15:45,200
you because his minions listen
to him.

269
00:15:45,840 --> 00:15:49,320
So he makes like a goomba fight
you and and a koopa fight you

270
00:15:49,320 --> 00:15:52,200
and then instead of him having
another minion he just jumps in

271
00:15:52,200 --> 00:15:57,640
to fight your minion.
So it's like you're in a Pokémon

272
00:15:57,640 --> 00:16:00,440
battle and you, you know, you
whoop the guy's Pokémon.

273
00:16:00,440 --> 00:16:06,440
He just runs in, fists flying.
And Kamik is with him and Kamik

274
00:16:06,440 --> 00:16:09,760
is just like telling him half
truths the whole time to just

275
00:16:09,920 --> 00:16:12,760
limp him through this process of
playing this game because he

276
00:16:12,760 --> 00:16:13,560
won't listen.
That's.

277
00:16:15,280 --> 00:16:18,640
Funny Bowser.
And like, he's like, what?

278
00:16:18,920 --> 00:16:21,280
I lost, I lost to my own
minions.

279
00:16:21,280 --> 00:16:23,480
And then like, Luigi chimes and
it's because you don't treat

280
00:16:23,480 --> 00:16:25,560
your captures with love.
And then he stops and he's like,

281
00:16:25,600 --> 00:16:29,920
dude, nobody asked you.
And then and then Peach whispers

282
00:16:29,920 --> 00:16:31,080
It's because he doesn't know how
to play.

283
00:16:32,680 --> 00:16:35,880
But she gave Bowser Junior a
star to keep track of, which is

284
00:16:35,880 --> 00:16:38,400
one of the badges, but not not
Bowser.

285
00:16:38,640 --> 00:16:41,160
Which is what what brings him to
the Mushroom Kingdom in the 1st

286
00:16:41,160 --> 00:16:42,600
place.
Because he has beef with the

287
00:16:42,600 --> 00:16:45,640
fact that Junior was made into a
gym leader and he wasn't.

288
00:16:45,640 --> 00:16:51,200
Luigi also, by what I saw, he
nicknames all of his captures.

289
00:16:51,400 --> 00:16:54,120
Yeah, he does.
Just like in Paper Mario, he has

290
00:16:54,120 --> 00:16:56,840
his like little stories about
his adventure.

291
00:16:57,560 --> 00:17:00,960
That's funny.
So he eventually joins Bowser

292
00:17:00,960 --> 00:17:03,200
because there's like this.
So here's here's another thing.

293
00:17:03,200 --> 00:17:04,760
There's a, there's A tag
mechanic.

294
00:17:05,240 --> 00:17:08,960
So there's so the first couple
worlds I think are pretty

295
00:17:08,960 --> 00:17:12,760
standard Mario fare, right?
So you get like the the Mushroom

296
00:17:12,760 --> 00:17:16,640
Kingdom, then you go to the
Cloud Kingdom, then you go to

297
00:17:16,640 --> 00:17:18,079
like two different city
kingdoms.

298
00:17:18,079 --> 00:17:21,000
You can pick, you can pick
which, which one to do first.

299
00:17:21,319 --> 00:17:25,319
Technically, world 3 is like a
whole city that's run by Wario

300
00:17:25,760 --> 00:17:29,320
who's making games and in order
to get through this right, like

301
00:17:29,320 --> 00:17:33,400
you have to find 3 passwords to
get into his gym and to do them

302
00:17:33,400 --> 00:17:35,880
you have to meet characters from
the warrior wear series and you

303
00:17:35,880 --> 00:17:38,200
have to play these little
warrior wear like mini games

304
00:17:38,200 --> 00:17:41,040
that occur like right, right
with the game like there's just

305
00:17:41,040 --> 00:17:42,640
so much crammed into this.
It's awesome.

306
00:17:42,640 --> 00:17:43,680
It's.
Pretty cool.

307
00:17:43,680 --> 00:17:46,120
I I'm going to have to like,
really give this a look.

308
00:17:46,160 --> 00:17:48,240
Holy crap.
And then like, look, and, and

309
00:17:48,240 --> 00:17:51,920
then Waluigi is the gym leader
in the next World and he's got

310
00:17:51,920 --> 00:17:55,800
this like entire crypto scam
going on of like of, of purple

311
00:17:55,800 --> 00:17:59,200
coins.
And you borrow a bunch of coins

312
00:17:59,200 --> 00:18:01,320
from a loan shark, which starts
a quest.

313
00:18:01,320 --> 00:18:03,200
There's, there's like a whole
active quest log.

314
00:18:03,200 --> 00:18:07,280
You can go back and do stuff
where you owe money to the loan

315
00:18:07,280 --> 00:18:09,560
shark and they'll just ambush
you once in a while if you

316
00:18:09,560 --> 00:18:12,360
borrowed coins from them
unwittingly.

317
00:18:12,360 --> 00:18:14,600
And that's still happening.
Like I'm 4 worlds beyond that.

318
00:18:14,600 --> 00:18:17,240
And that's still like every once
in a while, the loan sharks come

319
00:18:17,240 --> 00:18:18,720
and try to beat me up for coins
and.

320
00:18:19,120 --> 00:18:21,640
That's funny.
You can sense it's like an

321
00:18:21,640 --> 00:18:25,200
actual Pokémon game you can
revisit like previous worlds,

322
00:18:25,200 --> 00:18:27,040
right?
Yeah, yeah.

323
00:18:27,560 --> 00:18:30,400
It's not like it's gone forever.
Once you get once you pass it.

324
00:18:31,440 --> 00:18:34,240
Yeah, the the HMS and traversal
things have been turned into

325
00:18:34,240 --> 00:18:37,000
items like like a lot of the
modern games instead of you

326
00:18:37,000 --> 00:18:40,440
having to put like strength on
one of your best Pokémon, right?

327
00:18:40,440 --> 00:18:42,840
Like you there.
There's the Power Glove, which

328
00:18:42,840 --> 00:18:46,360
is the like the Nintendo Power
Glove let's you move, move

329
00:18:46,360 --> 00:18:50,080
rocks.
And it's just like so in, in

330
00:18:50,080 --> 00:18:53,720
the, the, the Donkey Kong
Kingdom, which is the fifth one,

331
00:18:53,920 --> 00:18:57,760
you meet up with Captain Toad
and Captain Toad travels with

332
00:18:57,760 --> 00:19:00,560
you and he, he fights alongside
you in double battles.

333
00:19:00,560 --> 00:19:04,080
Cause in Donkey Kong's Kingdom,
everybody fights with two, two

334
00:19:04,080 --> 00:19:06,240
captures at the same time.
They call him wild, wild

335
00:19:06,240 --> 00:19:09,160
battles.
So beyond that, the whole

336
00:19:09,160 --> 00:19:11,480
Kingdom is like navigating
through the jungle.

337
00:19:12,000 --> 00:19:15,800
You can split up with Captain
Toad, like you can turn around,

338
00:19:15,800 --> 00:19:17,720
talk to him and say let's go
separately.

339
00:19:18,080 --> 00:19:21,360
And Mario has these panels that
he can jump on and Toad has the

340
00:19:21,360 --> 00:19:23,480
power glove that he can move
boulders with.

341
00:19:24,160 --> 00:19:26,320
And you have to separate along
two different paths.

342
00:19:26,520 --> 00:19:31,040
And when you hit the R button,
you literally switch from Mario

343
00:19:31,040 --> 00:19:33,440
to Captain Toad.
And Captain Toad has his has his

344
00:19:33,520 --> 00:19:37,040
own party and he can catch
things within within the Jungle

345
00:19:37,040 --> 00:19:39,760
Kingdom and raise them.
And you're literally going back

346
00:19:39,760 --> 00:19:42,480
and forth playing two trainers
at the same time, solving

347
00:19:42,520 --> 00:19:45,960
puzzles like you would in a
Mario and and Luigi game.

348
00:19:46,360 --> 00:19:49,320
Wow, so but what happens like
when you pass that world?

349
00:19:49,640 --> 00:19:54,480
Did you just lose Toad or?
At least temporarily, he keeps

350
00:19:54,480 --> 00:19:58,120
alluding to the fact that he
will come back, but in in the

351
00:19:58,120 --> 00:20:02,240
game, he gives you all the stuff
that all all the all the items

352
00:20:02,240 --> 00:20:05,840
that that that he has, including
the the power glove and also all

353
00:20:05,840 --> 00:20:07,520
the captures that you captured
for him and.

354
00:20:07,560 --> 00:20:10,000
Because.
The the Jungle Kingdom is long.

355
00:20:10,000 --> 00:20:12,040
By the time you've gotten
through it, he definitely has.

356
00:20:12,080 --> 00:20:15,720
You probably have caught 6
captures and like actually he

357
00:20:15,720 --> 00:20:19,080
has a his main 1 is a hammer
bro.

358
00:20:19,080 --> 00:20:23,520
And you guys remember cast form
from the yeah?

359
00:20:24,480 --> 00:20:27,960
Oh, from yeah, Pokémon right
Cast form Yeah, that's a little

360
00:20:27,960 --> 00:20:30,160
droplet thing.
Or yeah, he's a little.

361
00:20:30,320 --> 00:20:34,440
Crappy Mon that changes with the
changes types with the weather.

362
00:20:35,080 --> 00:20:38,720
So hammer bro is that so?
Hammer bro doesn't doesn't

363
00:20:38,720 --> 00:20:41,320
evolve.
If you hit sunny day, he turns

364
00:20:41,320 --> 00:20:46,120
into one of the fire trucking
hammer Bros and then if you hit

365
00:20:46,560 --> 00:20:49,320
snow he turns into an ice one.
And if you hit rain he turns

366
00:20:49,320 --> 00:20:52,120
into a boomerang 1.
And depending on which one he is

367
00:20:52,120 --> 00:20:55,600
he has, he has an attack called
hammer throw which will turn

368
00:20:55,600 --> 00:20:58,960
into fire throw, ice throw or
boomerang throw.

369
00:20:58,960 --> 00:21:02,040
And all the attacks do a
completely different thing.

370
00:21:02,720 --> 00:21:05,960
Like hammer throw is like a fury
attack style attack.

371
00:21:05,960 --> 00:21:10,240
Boomerang is a two hit might
flinch you move like it's so

372
00:21:10,240 --> 00:21:11,880
neat.
I I just can't believe all the

373
00:21:11,880 --> 00:21:13,680
stuff that they crammed in this
game.

374
00:21:13,680 --> 00:21:18,840
It's so good.
Yeah, yeah, and I'm I'm still

375
00:21:18,840 --> 00:21:21,520
playing through it.
I'm sinking hours into it.

376
00:21:21,520 --> 00:21:24,800
It's it's quick too, like the
there's there's 8 worlds and I'd

377
00:21:24,800 --> 00:21:26,960
say each world probably takes
you about an hour.

378
00:21:27,520 --> 00:21:31,200
So the a world to be akin to
going from gym, gym, gym to gym.

379
00:21:31,200 --> 00:21:34,680
And it's just like crap that
happens like bullet bills

380
00:21:34,680 --> 00:21:38,120
shooting at you, which are also
captures and this puzzles and I

381
00:21:38,120 --> 00:21:41,400
don't know, it's it's this weird
awesome.

382
00:21:41,640 --> 00:21:44,840
So well done crossbreed between
Pokémon and Mario.

383
00:21:44,840 --> 00:21:47,920
RPGI really recommend it to
everyone who is who is

384
00:21:47,920 --> 00:21:50,520
listening.
Yeah, you're making me want to

385
00:21:50,520 --> 00:21:53,120
play it.
Yeah, it just spoke to me so

386
00:21:53,120 --> 00:21:58,920
deeply.
Is it on mobile or is it like or

387
00:21:58,920 --> 00:22:02,200
is it like just you have to
emulate it on like AGBA

388
00:22:02,360 --> 00:22:04,880
emulator?
Yeah, we'll leave the link to it

389
00:22:04,880 --> 00:22:07,960
in the in the show notes here.
But yeah, it's, it's, it's just

390
00:22:07,960 --> 00:22:13,240
AGBA file and mobile.
Mobile now has has emulators, so

391
00:22:13,240 --> 00:22:15,320
you definitely could just run it
on your phone if you wanted to.

392
00:22:15,920 --> 00:22:19,080
I mean low key this sounds
better than an actual Pokémon

393
00:22:19,080 --> 00:22:21,320
game.
It is better than an actual

394
00:22:21,320 --> 00:22:26,240
Pokémon game.
Oh and the oh I didn't even

395
00:22:26,240 --> 00:22:30,600
mention one of the best parts.
So the the pokedex, the tattle

396
00:22:30,600 --> 00:22:36,080
decks, which is from Paper
Mario, if you catch something

397
00:22:36,600 --> 00:22:42,160
within the tattle decks is that
captures entire move set like

398
00:22:42,160 --> 00:22:45,120
learn learn set like you can go
over to the stats and you can

399
00:22:45,120 --> 00:22:48,600
scroll through the moves it
learns and when and it will tell

400
00:22:48,600 --> 00:22:53,600
you how it evolves.
There's 150 total captures and

401
00:22:53,600 --> 00:22:57,080
it it tells you everything about
them after you catch them in the

402
00:22:57,080 --> 00:22:59,200
in the in the tattle deck.
So it has this whole like

403
00:23:00,000 --> 00:23:02,720
internal database that you don't
need to go search online for.

404
00:23:02,760 --> 00:23:05,480
Yeah, definitely a good quality
of life thing there.

405
00:23:06,040 --> 00:23:08,920
Yeah, Pokémon's kind of behind
the time zone, what it should be

406
00:23:08,920 --> 00:23:11,200
doing.
Yeah, well, especially if you

407
00:23:11,200 --> 00:23:12,920
have, you know, little kids
playing it.

408
00:23:13,040 --> 00:23:16,480
You know, it's like they should
just be all in the game at this

409
00:23:16,480 --> 00:23:18,560
point in time.
Yeah, excellent.

410
00:23:18,800 --> 00:23:21,920
They Nintendo needs to hire
these these people and pay them,

411
00:23:22,360 --> 00:23:24,040
pay them, pay them to do.
Yeah, they won't.

412
00:23:24,440 --> 00:23:27,040
Never mind.
Never mind Mario and Rabbids.

413
00:23:27,040 --> 00:23:29,560
OK, nobody wants that.
Get out of here with that.

414
00:23:29,960 --> 00:23:31,560
Super Mario Mon is where it's
at.

415
00:23:31,960 --> 00:23:37,040
Oh the Wario fight.
He's trying to make another game

416
00:23:37,040 --> 00:23:39,480
so people stop playing the
capture game.

417
00:23:40,440 --> 00:23:43,680
That's funny.
And he downloads it on his on

418
00:23:43,680 --> 00:23:47,760
his computer and he gets it from
a shady source and the the virus

419
00:23:47,760 --> 00:23:51,840
in the computer attacks you and
it's literally red from Pokémon

420
00:23:51,840 --> 00:23:58,280
blue with like with like a
toros, A Snorlax and like other

421
00:23:58,760 --> 00:24:02,440
and and and like a Lapras and a
Pikachu or something like that.

422
00:24:02,600 --> 00:24:05,880
And you fight like the literal
like blue sprites from that.

423
00:24:06,400 --> 00:24:09,120
Wow, it must be a generation.
Must be a dumbed down version

424
00:24:09,120 --> 00:24:11,280
right?
Like lower levels cause wasn't

425
00:24:11,280 --> 00:24:12,640
warrior like Level 3 or
something?

426
00:24:12,640 --> 00:24:15,960
Yeah, I mean he but but with
with with level scaling, it's

427
00:24:15,960 --> 00:24:19,120
like right there with you.
So it is, it can be kind of a

428
00:24:19,120 --> 00:24:21,280
tough fight and you have to
fight him right before fighting

429
00:24:21,280 --> 00:24:24,440
Wario, but if you fight him to
the rival battle music.

430
00:24:25,280 --> 00:24:27,760
I was going about to ask that,
but that is sweet.

431
00:24:28,520 --> 00:24:34,080
So cool, so cool.
Anyway, I'll stop and I will, I

432
00:24:34,160 --> 00:24:37,000
guess.
Is there there's a lot going on

433
00:24:37,000 --> 00:24:40,840
in that game.
Mine is not near is going to be

434
00:24:40,840 --> 00:24:43,600
as long as that maybe just a
fraction of that.

435
00:24:43,600 --> 00:24:49,000
But like what I have been
playing is a mod and it's Mega

436
00:24:49,000 --> 00:24:54,200
Man X8 but it's it's called Mega
Man X8D Meg and it's in the SNES

437
00:24:54,200 --> 00:24:57,520
style graphics.
So is it is it a modded like

438
00:24:57,520 --> 00:24:58,880
Mega Man X1?
Like how?

439
00:24:59,000 --> 00:25:02,480
Like what is the modding engine
or is it a complete ground built

440
00:25:02,480 --> 00:25:04,840
up game?
I think it's I think it's ground

441
00:25:04,840 --> 00:25:08,560
built up because it feels
smoother than X1, but it just it

442
00:25:08,560 --> 00:25:12,560
looks like it like all the arts
like very similar to X1.

443
00:25:13,720 --> 00:25:16,680
But yeah, I've just been having
an awesome time.

444
00:25:17,080 --> 00:25:21,360
So when they first released it,
I think I have a name here.

445
00:25:21,800 --> 00:25:25,520
It was created by Allison Depas,
you know, I'll link it in the

446
00:25:25,520 --> 00:25:29,880
description.
But it only X was playable at

447
00:25:29,880 --> 00:25:31,640
first.
So you could play through the

448
00:25:31,640 --> 00:25:34,080
whole game just with X, you
know, has his armors.

449
00:25:34,080 --> 00:25:35,040
What?
Not all that.

450
00:25:35,680 --> 00:25:40,720
But then another martyr came
along and actually put Zero and

451
00:25:40,720 --> 00:25:44,360
Axel into the game.
Wow, it's a mod on a mod.

452
00:25:44,960 --> 00:25:48,120
Yeah, so like they people came
together and just made this game

453
00:25:48,120 --> 00:25:49,520
complete.
It's just it's great.

454
00:25:50,040 --> 00:25:52,160
So I mean, obviously there's
there's differences.

455
00:25:53,560 --> 00:25:56,960
You there's no switching.
You pick the character on the,

456
00:25:57,600 --> 00:26:00,320
you know, boss select screen of
which character you want to play

457
00:26:00,320 --> 00:26:02,320
as.
And then that you'll play the

458
00:26:02,320 --> 00:26:05,560
whole entire level with just
that one character, which is

459
00:26:05,560 --> 00:26:08,320
fine to me.
Like I feel like swapping is

460
00:26:08,320 --> 00:26:11,640
kind of broken because you get
like 22 characters in one you

461
00:26:11,640 --> 00:26:13,520
get AA.
Life Wire makes the game fairly

462
00:26:13,520 --> 00:26:16,040
easy I think.
Yeah, and if you have certain

463
00:26:16,040 --> 00:26:20,040
amount in the original X8, if
you had a certain amount of red

464
00:26:20,120 --> 00:26:24,120
damage but not fully gone damage
when you switch, they'll heal it

465
00:26:24,120 --> 00:26:26,920
over time.
Yeah, so that mechanic is in

466
00:26:26,920 --> 00:26:31,400
this game, but it's not tied to
your character like your base

467
00:26:31,400 --> 00:26:34,040
character.
So like X with no armor doesn't

468
00:26:34,040 --> 00:26:37,360
get that he gets that through
his armor like one of the armor

469
00:26:37,360 --> 00:26:42,800
pieces will allow him to heal
like the red damage, which in an

470
00:26:42,800 --> 00:26:45,800
X8 wasn't like that.
It just they, it came baked in

471
00:26:46,320 --> 00:26:47,680
like Steve was saying.
Yeah, it.

472
00:26:47,720 --> 00:26:50,560
Would slowly, but the red would
slowly take away.

473
00:26:51,240 --> 00:26:54,800
Yeah, on the active character,
yeah, you have to swap to gain

474
00:26:54,800 --> 00:26:56,480
it.
Yeah, so how this game deals

475
00:26:56,480 --> 00:27:00,640
with it is you actually have to
deal damage to for it to go back

476
00:27:00,640 --> 00:27:02,240
up.
So if you have any like red

477
00:27:02,240 --> 00:27:06,120
bars, as long as you're shooting
and doing damage, you can get

478
00:27:06,120 --> 00:27:12,640
that HP back or the the bars
back X has his own armors like

479
00:27:12,640 --> 00:27:16,600
he did in the X8 where you had
like Hermes and Icarus.

480
00:27:17,080 --> 00:27:20,080
And you can swap between
whatever pieces you want mix and

481
00:27:20,080 --> 00:27:22,880
match ultimate armors in the
game.

482
00:27:24,160 --> 00:27:27,200
It's in like 1 of the last
levels so that the the

483
00:27:27,200 --> 00:27:30,160
unlockables in this game is you
don't have to beat the game to

484
00:27:30,160 --> 00:27:32,240
unlock like the ultimate armor
black service.

485
00:27:32,240 --> 00:27:34,560
They're all in the game.
They're just hidden, which I

486
00:27:34,560 --> 00:27:37,880
think is was great.
OK, so you have to like they're

487
00:27:37,880 --> 00:27:41,520
not tied to like how like the
the the black zero and white

488
00:27:41,520 --> 00:27:44,160
axle.
I don't remember how you unlock

489
00:27:44,160 --> 00:27:47,360
them in.
So, so how you so how you unlock

490
00:27:47,360 --> 00:27:52,200
them in X8 was, is pretty there
was a lot of things you had to

491
00:27:52,200 --> 00:27:54,280
do.
Like you had the 100%, the

492
00:27:54,280 --> 00:27:57,080
character progression, like you
had to buy all like the upgrades

493
00:27:57,080 --> 00:28:00,440
with like the metal system.
So, so that they were at 100%.

494
00:28:00,920 --> 00:28:05,160
When they're at 100%, you had to
kill Luminase final form with a

495
00:28:05,160 --> 00:28:09,280
double attack with the character
that you had selected like did

496
00:28:09,280 --> 00:28:12,360
that you were fighting with.
And that's how you unlocked like

497
00:28:12,360 --> 00:28:16,840
black zero and the white axle.
Could also unlock the navigators

498
00:28:16,840 --> 00:28:18,120
right?
Can you do that in this game

499
00:28:18,120 --> 00:28:20,520
too?
No, remember.

500
00:28:20,640 --> 00:28:22,560
You could play as like Alia
Lair.

501
00:28:22,600 --> 00:28:24,080
You could.
I actually don't even remember

502
00:28:24,080 --> 00:28:26,560
how you do that.
I forget how you do that.

503
00:28:26,560 --> 00:28:28,520
Steve and I did all of it Once
Upon a time, so.

504
00:28:28,640 --> 00:28:33,080
Full yeah.
So they added fights in this

505
00:28:33,080 --> 00:28:38,120
game.
So like on the Optic Sunflowers

506
00:28:38,120 --> 00:28:40,920
level, there's like a secret
area that you can go to like if

507
00:28:40,920 --> 00:28:42,840
you S rank all of like the
areas.

508
00:28:43,720 --> 00:28:48,760
And once you S rank the last
area, this area that unlocks

509
00:28:48,960 --> 00:28:50,800
that's like kind of hidden by
the like.

510
00:28:50,800 --> 00:28:53,200
If you explore like this whole
you, you notice that like

511
00:28:53,200 --> 00:28:55,520
there's a gate that's been
unlocked and you can walk

512
00:28:55,520 --> 00:28:57,320
through as long as you S franked
everything.

513
00:28:57,880 --> 00:29:00,760
There's portals in here where
you can fight like different

514
00:29:00,760 --> 00:29:03,400
bosses.
One of them is Serenade from

515
00:29:03,400 --> 00:29:06,400
Mega Man Battle Network 3.
I've seen that fight, it's so

516
00:29:06,400 --> 00:29:10,320
cool.
Holy shit is that that boss

517
00:29:10,400 --> 00:29:13,120
ridiculous like.
You beat it.

518
00:29:13,840 --> 00:29:15,440
I haven't not beat it yet.
So.

519
00:29:16,400 --> 00:29:19,240
So when you beat the game, you
have to play on normal first,

520
00:29:19,240 --> 00:29:22,160
but then you unlock hard mode.
So like I didn't find it on

521
00:29:22,160 --> 00:29:25,240
normal mode like Sam, so I'm
playing it on I'm trying to beat

522
00:29:25,240 --> 00:29:28,520
him on hard and yeah, he's just
slapping me around.

523
00:29:29,080 --> 00:29:32,440
But there's also another boss.
There's two other bosses there.

524
00:29:32,440 --> 00:29:35,240
There's Cut Man, which was
already in the game like Mega

525
00:29:35,240 --> 00:29:40,480
Man X8 and then there's Red from
Mega Man X7.

526
00:29:40,480 --> 00:29:44,480
If you guys remember, he's like
the he's like the Maverick, the

527
00:29:44,480 --> 00:29:47,440
head honcho Maverick, that group
that Axel was with he.

528
00:29:48,040 --> 00:29:50,000
Had him in the.
In the.

529
00:29:50,240 --> 00:29:53,080
He had the scythe.
Yeah, and there's a bunch of

530
00:29:53,080 --> 00:29:57,040
Spires and like mist underneath
and you have to transfer the

531
00:29:57,040 --> 00:29:59,600
Spires to fight him.
Yeah, and he teleports around.

532
00:29:59,800 --> 00:30:02,080
I don't remember this Mega Man
X7 game.

533
00:30:02,080 --> 00:30:04,120
I think there's only 7X games.
Mega Man.

534
00:30:04,200 --> 00:30:08,000
Mega Man X 23456 and 8.
I mean, I don't think you're not

535
00:30:08,000 --> 00:30:09,040
wrong.
Yeah.

536
00:30:10,440 --> 00:30:15,600
But any who, if you beat him as
Axel, you'll that's how you get

537
00:30:15,600 --> 00:30:18,640
his white armor.
But like his that fight is is

538
00:30:18,960 --> 00:30:23,400
cool because all right, let me
dial back a bit because the the

539
00:30:23,400 --> 00:30:26,800
how you unlock his capsule so
you can actually walk into it.

540
00:30:27,440 --> 00:30:30,720
It doesn't tell you in the game,
which being a mod, I really

541
00:30:30,720 --> 00:30:32,680
don't think you should do this
because obviously there's no

542
00:30:32,680 --> 00:30:36,560
wiki usually on on mods or at
least very little information.

543
00:30:37,120 --> 00:30:40,640
But you can actually toggle your
sub tanks and your health off.

544
00:30:41,240 --> 00:30:43,840
So like if you when you get
these upgrades, you can actually

545
00:30:43,840 --> 00:30:46,480
turn them off.
So if you want to get everything

546
00:30:46,480 --> 00:30:49,240
but you still want to play bare
bones like with no upgrades, you

547
00:30:49,240 --> 00:30:53,360
still can.
But like how to make his capsule

548
00:30:53,360 --> 00:30:59,080
enterable, you have to turn off
sub tanks in heart pieces or

549
00:30:59,080 --> 00:31:02,760
whatever so you can actually
unlock it and go into it.

550
00:31:03,360 --> 00:31:05,960
So you have to fight him with
like no upgrades whatsoever.

551
00:31:06,800 --> 00:31:12,280
Red only does one damage to you
no matter what he does, but he's

552
00:31:12,280 --> 00:31:14,280
like crazy.
He's like zipping around like

553
00:31:14,280 --> 00:31:18,520
it's so hard to dodge like his
moves that like that one damage

554
00:31:18,520 --> 00:31:21,880
adds up because it's just like
he's ridiculous.

555
00:31:21,880 --> 00:31:24,360
He's not as hard as Serenade
because serenade chunks, but

556
00:31:24,360 --> 00:31:27,960
like it's very hard to beat Red
without taking any hits.

557
00:31:27,960 --> 00:31:31,640
So like the the 20 bars that you
start off with, like you'll be,

558
00:31:31,920 --> 00:31:34,760
you'll be surprised how fast it
actually goes down when you do

559
00:31:34,760 --> 00:31:36,480
fight them.
So they gave that character like

560
00:31:36,480 --> 00:31:39,800
a real fight because the X-71
was kind of like.

561
00:31:40,240 --> 00:31:42,280
Yeah.
It's kind of dookie, like

562
00:31:42,280 --> 00:31:44,000
everything else about that game,
but.

563
00:31:44,520 --> 00:31:48,320
Yeah, I actually like, I don't
even know which one I actually

564
00:31:48,320 --> 00:31:50,960
prefer.
Like I the D make is good.

565
00:31:51,280 --> 00:31:56,400
Like so this 2 levels and X8 the
original X8 where they're like,

566
00:31:56,400 --> 00:31:59,720
you know, vehicle levels were
like you're on like a like a

567
00:32:00,960 --> 00:32:02,840
whatever you call it a
snowmobile or whatever.

568
00:32:02,840 --> 00:32:07,480
And then like a hovercraft, I, I
personally don't care for those

569
00:32:07,480 --> 00:32:11,280
levels like some people might,
but I, I play X for Mega Man XI

570
00:32:11,280 --> 00:32:14,080
want to be dashing around, wall
jumping, shooting, all that.

571
00:32:14,400 --> 00:32:18,000
That's what I want to be doing.
And that's what they did in this

572
00:32:18,000 --> 00:32:21,240
D make like they're still in
there, like you can ride around

573
00:32:21,240 --> 00:32:24,560
on these crafts, but they're
they're optional, like optional,

574
00:32:24,560 --> 00:32:28,320
like you can actually like run
if you wanted to.

575
00:32:29,120 --> 00:32:32,320
And they have like other spots
in the levels where you have to

576
00:32:32,320 --> 00:32:34,920
actually get off and like do a
little platforming and all that

577
00:32:34,920 --> 00:32:36,760
stuff.
So they it basically turns them

578
00:32:36,760 --> 00:32:38,840
into normal levels which is
great.

579
00:32:39,920 --> 00:32:42,840
Yeah, because I think the
jellyfish boss, I forget what

580
00:32:42,840 --> 00:32:45,920
his name was, he got kind of
like a hosed out of a level in

581
00:32:45,920 --> 00:32:50,520
the in the original X8.
Yeah, well, so did the the Yeti

582
00:32:50,520 --> 00:32:52,480
guy did too.
I thought he had a little bit of

583
00:32:52,480 --> 00:32:54,280
a level and part of it with
snowmobile.

584
00:32:54,880 --> 00:32:57,400
I think he had a tiny bit at the
end.

585
00:32:57,400 --> 00:33:01,200
Like a very, very tiny bit
because I know you could, you

586
00:33:01,200 --> 00:33:04,200
could grab like a capsule and
stuff, but that like, yeah, it's

587
00:33:04,200 --> 00:33:08,520
not, it's not a lot.
I'm, I'm so apprehensive about

588
00:33:08,520 --> 00:33:12,120
this because I'm a little bit
miffed that it exists at all.

589
00:33:13,320 --> 00:33:16,840
I, I mean, I think it's cool.
I love, I love the fan, the fan

590
00:33:16,840 --> 00:33:19,560
projects.
It does look like something that

591
00:33:20,040 --> 00:33:24,440
I want to play, but the bass
around it hates on Mega Man X8

592
00:33:24,440 --> 00:33:29,520
so much and I I really feel like
it's because Mega Man X6 was not

593
00:33:29,520 --> 00:33:34,440
great and Mega Man X7 was so
inexcusably bad that I think

594
00:33:34,440 --> 00:33:36,000
just by then people were
poisoned.

595
00:33:36,000 --> 00:33:38,000
But I love X8.
I think it's.

596
00:33:38,360 --> 00:33:40,600
Really good.
I think it's good too and.

597
00:33:40,800 --> 00:33:44,320
It's just like, like whenever I
log on to something to look at

598
00:33:44,320 --> 00:33:46,800
this this, this D make, there's
just people like crapping all

599
00:33:46,800 --> 00:33:49,680
over X8, so it makes me want to
be like, I'm playing anyway,

600
00:33:49,680 --> 00:33:51,120
yeah.
Screw you guys.

601
00:33:51,120 --> 00:33:54,360
What they should have done is
they should have been X7 like

602
00:33:54,520 --> 00:33:57,800
there should have been an X 7D
make like.

603
00:33:58,400 --> 00:34:03,360
I honestly do feel like on its
own Mega Man X8 was a was a

604
00:34:03,360 --> 00:34:03,880
good.
Game.

605
00:34:03,880 --> 00:34:06,400
I just want to go through a list
of the things that I liked about

606
00:34:06,400 --> 00:34:10,639
X8 and ask you if it's in there.
So like voice acting?

607
00:34:10,840 --> 00:34:15,239
Because I actually like the
voices of X and Zero in the X8,

608
00:34:15,239 --> 00:34:16,800
Yeah.
No, the voice acting is

609
00:34:16,800 --> 00:34:19,360
phenomenal.
In the original X8 there

610
00:34:19,360 --> 00:34:21,280
unfortunately is no voice
acting.

611
00:34:21,320 --> 00:34:23,920
Dialogue at all?
There is dialogue, yes.

612
00:34:23,920 --> 00:34:27,400
Each boss has their own.
It's basically a RIP from the

613
00:34:27,400 --> 00:34:30,120
original.
Like I've noticed that a lot of

614
00:34:30,120 --> 00:34:34,600
the same things that the
original had was in the the D

615
00:34:34,600 --> 00:34:36,920
make, so it's probably a one for
one.

616
00:34:36,920 --> 00:34:38,400
Does every boss have super
attacks?

617
00:34:39,159 --> 00:34:42,679
Yes they do, and depending on
the difficulty they'll trigger

618
00:34:42,679 --> 00:34:46,040
it later or earlier depending on
if it's normal or hard.

619
00:34:47,159 --> 00:34:50,320
Does 0 get all of his other
weapons like the glave and the,

620
00:34:50,480 --> 00:34:53,800
you know, the knuckles and.
Oh yeah, he gets them all and

621
00:34:54,040 --> 00:34:56,840
and they feel better in this
game I feel like, like they just

622
00:34:56,840 --> 00:35:01,040
feel more fluent to use.
The glave was just better than

623
00:35:01,040 --> 00:35:05,200
the Z Saber, yeah.
Yeah, I remember on the moon

624
00:35:05,200 --> 00:35:09,400
like just using it to go through
the the floor to hit the Sigma

625
00:35:09,400 --> 00:35:11,520
replicas.
Sharking him, yeah.

626
00:35:11,840 --> 00:35:17,680
Yeah.
Is Luminae still the main bad

627
00:35:17,680 --> 00:35:20,120
guy?
Yeah, Yep, he's the final boss

628
00:35:20,120 --> 00:35:22,120
still.
Oh wow, and the Sigma fight is

629
00:35:22,120 --> 00:35:25,440
still in it.
Yep, he's the first of the

630
00:35:25,440 --> 00:35:28,640
three.
So you got like Sigma, then

631
00:35:28,640 --> 00:35:30,720
Luminae, and then like Luminae's
final form.

632
00:35:30,920 --> 00:35:34,880
So yeah, no, it's really good.
Like if you're a fan of Mega Man

633
00:35:34,880 --> 00:35:37,560
X8, it's definitely worth like
looking into it.

634
00:35:37,560 --> 00:35:42,200
I had a lot of fun.
And there's no metal system, so

635
00:35:42,560 --> 00:35:45,920
there's no farming like currency
or anything like there's there's

636
00:35:45,920 --> 00:35:48,800
no like progression through like
the the chip system that they

637
00:35:48,800 --> 00:35:50,960
had.
It's been way too long for me to

638
00:35:50,960 --> 00:35:55,360
remember exactly how that worked
and what you got from it.

639
00:35:56,080 --> 00:35:58,320
Yeah.
So like I'll run you by a couple

640
00:35:58,320 --> 00:36:00,880
examples.
So like the the original X8 had

641
00:36:00,880 --> 00:36:03,280
like a currency system, I think
they called it metals.

642
00:36:03,560 --> 00:36:05,840
Yeah.
And yeah, yeah, I do remember

643
00:36:05,840 --> 00:36:08,040
that because you got rewarded
more because there'd be like

644
00:36:08,040 --> 00:36:10,760
rooms of like, I don't know, I
don't want to call them mini

645
00:36:10,760 --> 00:36:13,880
games, but like there were rooms
that if you performed better,

646
00:36:13,880 --> 00:36:15,120
you would get more medals at the
end.

647
00:36:15,240 --> 00:36:19,680
Right, and basically what they
were used for was you could like

648
00:36:19,680 --> 00:36:24,240
augment any of the three
characters X0 or X.

649
00:36:24,240 --> 00:36:27,240
Like you could give them like a
shock buffer where like they

650
00:36:27,240 --> 00:36:31,520
took less damage or like you can
raise their HP like I, yeah,

651
00:36:31,520 --> 00:36:32,880
there was no hearts in the
original.

652
00:36:32,880 --> 00:36:35,880
Like you, you actually upgraded
their health through the through

653
00:36:35,880 --> 00:36:39,600
the the currency system.
And then like you could give

654
00:36:39,600 --> 00:36:42,520
them like chips where like you
could step on spikes once

655
00:36:42,520 --> 00:36:45,680
without dying, but then like the
chip would go away after that.

656
00:36:46,840 --> 00:36:48,520
There's just like many stuff
like that.

657
00:36:48,560 --> 00:36:51,080
God that's making me want to
play Mega Man X8 so bad.

658
00:36:52,080 --> 00:36:54,400
That is not in the in the in the
D make.

659
00:36:54,680 --> 00:36:57,760
It's basically like the NES
would have been like you got

660
00:36:57,760 --> 00:37:01,000
your stages, you got like your
collectibles in each stage.

661
00:37:01,920 --> 00:37:05,080
And yeah, like that.
I, I don't know if I, if I

662
00:37:05,080 --> 00:37:09,280
prefer the metal system to like
to the original formula, to be

663
00:37:09,280 --> 00:37:12,760
honest with you, because like
the to 100% like a character

664
00:37:12,880 --> 00:37:16,880
like or all characters for that
matter, was very grindy And like

665
00:37:16,880 --> 00:37:20,320
you literally would have to like
repeat stages just to farm

666
00:37:20,320 --> 00:37:21,920
metals.
Like I remember like Steve and I

667
00:37:21,920 --> 00:37:26,960
would farm like the like the the
dung beetle stage I think it was

668
00:37:27,120 --> 00:37:30,400
where like you had that big ass
robot that would chase you and

669
00:37:30,400 --> 00:37:33,720
then like anytime you hit them
like you would drop like a bunch

670
00:37:33,720 --> 00:37:36,720
of metals and stuff.
I remember doing that stage of.

671
00:37:36,720 --> 00:37:39,280
Time you do fast charge with X
and the laser beam.

672
00:37:41,760 --> 00:37:43,560
OK, it's all, it's all coming
back to me now.

673
00:37:44,680 --> 00:37:47,000
Yeah.
Oh, and another thing that they

674
00:37:47,000 --> 00:37:49,200
don't have is the grading
system.

675
00:37:49,200 --> 00:37:52,720
That's like an X mainstay since
since pretty early on.

676
00:37:53,080 --> 00:37:55,800
Well I thought you said that you
could S rank levels to unlock a

677
00:37:55,800 --> 00:37:58,000
new.
Level no, no, that that's optic

678
00:37:58,000 --> 00:38:00,960
sunflower thing.
So yeah, optic sunflowers level

679
00:38:00,960 --> 00:38:04,240
like it's like a bunch of mini
games in the in the level and

680
00:38:04,240 --> 00:38:07,360
depending on how good you do so
like say, like if you S ranked

681
00:38:07,360 --> 00:38:11,120
like the first like mini game.
Yeah, it's kind of like Storm

682
00:38:11,120 --> 00:38:14,120
Owl from X.
Four yeah, exactly like you

683
00:38:14,120 --> 00:38:16,520
would get an upgrade like you
would get a heart tank for S

684
00:38:16,520 --> 00:38:18,720
ranking the 1st.
Part I understand now.

685
00:38:19,480 --> 00:38:23,080
And then so on and so forth.
If you asked ranked all of them

686
00:38:23,200 --> 00:38:26,600
in a in a stage that that's how
you unlocked like the special

687
00:38:26,600 --> 00:38:29,880
fights.
I think in the original you had

688
00:38:29,880 --> 00:38:33,560
to like do some optic sunflowers
level multiple times to get

689
00:38:33,560 --> 00:38:36,760
everything you needed.
So I think there was like a

690
00:38:36,760 --> 00:38:39,480
couple of them where it was like
second place got you like one of

691
00:38:39,480 --> 00:38:42,360
the capsules that might have
contained 1 of zeros weapons or

692
00:38:42,360 --> 00:38:45,120
something like that.
And then first place got got you

693
00:38:45,120 --> 00:38:47,920
a sub tank or vice versa.
Like I think you literally had

694
00:38:47,920 --> 00:38:50,240
to do that level a few times in
order to get everything.

695
00:38:50,920 --> 00:38:52,240
Yeah, you, you're probably
right.

696
00:38:52,240 --> 00:38:55,960
I I don't remember exactly.
I think my only beef with that

697
00:38:55,960 --> 00:38:59,920
metal system in X8, because I do
remember farming the crap out of

698
00:38:59,920 --> 00:39:03,160
that boss, was that it was a bit
overtuned.

699
00:39:03,160 --> 00:39:05,040
Like, I don't know how they
expected you to earn all those

700
00:39:05,040 --> 00:39:08,320
medals.
Yeah, you couldn't like you

701
00:39:08,320 --> 00:39:11,160
couldn't just like with a like
A1 level type of thing or you

702
00:39:11,160 --> 00:39:13,960
just go through the level once
and be done with it now, like

703
00:39:14,720 --> 00:39:18,480
you were so under metals, if you
only did one level each like one

704
00:39:18,480 --> 00:39:21,560
time, you literally would have
to go through that level that

705
00:39:21,560 --> 00:39:26,000
we're talking about to farm that
big boss thing probably like 20

706
00:39:26,000 --> 00:39:30,960
times to to Max everybody out.
I mean, that's probably my only

707
00:39:30,960 --> 00:39:32,760
like biggest gripe with the
original.

708
00:39:32,760 --> 00:39:36,240
But other than that, I feel like
X8 is really good and it's it's

709
00:39:36,240 --> 00:39:39,520
more of like tomato, tomato or
apples to oranges when it comes

710
00:39:39,520 --> 00:39:41,240
to the the original to the D
make.

711
00:39:41,240 --> 00:39:44,840
They're both both really good
and I think they're both worth a

712
00:39:44,840 --> 00:39:47,920
play through.
Let me ask the very worst It

713
00:39:47,920 --> 00:39:51,600
gives you another opportunity to
play a next game you haven't

714
00:39:51,600 --> 00:39:53,360
played.
That's the way I looked at it.

715
00:39:53,360 --> 00:39:55,240
Because, you know, they, we
don't have anything, because

716
00:39:55,240 --> 00:39:57,520
Capcom sucks with anything, Mega
Man.

717
00:39:57,880 --> 00:40:01,840
So with ROM hacks, you know,
and, and, and I kind of talked

718
00:40:01,840 --> 00:40:04,240
about this a little bit in the
when, when talking about Super

719
00:40:04,240 --> 00:40:07,560
Mario mod, there's like
sometimes there's a lot of

720
00:40:07,560 --> 00:40:09,440
things that are overlooked and
kind of janky.

721
00:40:09,440 --> 00:40:11,680
Is that is that this or do you
feel like this is like super

722
00:40:11,680 --> 00:40:14,920
polished?
I feel like some of the upgrades

723
00:40:14,920 --> 00:40:18,240
could be in better locations,
like some of 0's weapons, it's

724
00:40:18,240 --> 00:40:21,480
like you almost like never would
have figured that out like on

725
00:40:21,480 --> 00:40:23,840
your own.
Like some of them are like you

726
00:40:23,840 --> 00:40:27,600
have to be in a certain spot
without taking any damage.

727
00:40:28,080 --> 00:40:30,400
And then you can just like walk
through this like wall.

728
00:40:30,480 --> 00:40:33,400
And then his weapon would be
like sitting like past the wall.

729
00:40:34,240 --> 00:40:37,040
But it's like if you had even
like a little bit of damage

730
00:40:37,040 --> 00:40:39,160
taken like the wall, you
wouldn't be able to walk through

731
00:40:39,160 --> 00:40:41,520
the wall.
But it's just, but like, how the

732
00:40:41,520 --> 00:40:43,800
hell would you know that was a
secret area to begin with?

733
00:40:43,920 --> 00:40:48,440
Like stuff like that.
I feel like they they definitely

734
00:40:48,440 --> 00:40:51,280
could balance better because
that in my opinion, that's not

735
00:40:51,280 --> 00:40:56,160
good.
In in X8 the original remember

736
00:40:56,160 --> 00:41:00,000
the the the trilobites power you
like raise that earth column,

737
00:41:00,240 --> 00:41:01,160
yes?
I.

738
00:41:01,160 --> 00:41:04,040
Feel like I remember some
instances where you had to do

739
00:41:04,040 --> 00:41:07,240
that to dig the item up from the
ground, and I don't remember if

740
00:41:07,240 --> 00:41:09,520
there was anything signaling you
that that was something you

741
00:41:09,520 --> 00:41:13,120
should do right there.
Yeah, well, I can tell you that

742
00:41:13,120 --> 00:41:17,240
that's not a thing in this game
where like that that that power

743
00:41:17,240 --> 00:41:20,680
up doesn't grab items so.
I think Steve and I just got

744
00:41:20,680 --> 00:41:23,000
good at it and we were like, oh,
that looks like an area you're

745
00:41:23,000 --> 00:41:24,600
not supposed to be and there's
nothing there.

746
00:41:24,600 --> 00:41:26,560
Let's try the Earth power.
Yeah.

747
00:41:28,560 --> 00:41:31,400
Yeah, checks out.
But other than that, like the

748
00:41:31,400 --> 00:41:34,720
game is like very fluent, I
would say, like it's on the

749
00:41:34,720 --> 00:41:37,760
level of the PS1 era of like
fluidness.

750
00:41:38,080 --> 00:41:39,160
Oh, now you're speaking my
language.

751
00:41:39,600 --> 00:41:44,320
Yeah, like it the the problem
with like the the SNESNES ones

752
00:41:44,320 --> 00:41:47,560
is like it's just not as fluid
like the wall kicking is can be

753
00:41:48,120 --> 00:41:51,520
somewhat clingy in the in the
SNES ones.

754
00:41:51,640 --> 00:41:54,480
It's not like that.
Like it's like it feels like PS1

755
00:41:54,480 --> 00:41:56,160
which is good.
How is the dash?

756
00:41:56,160 --> 00:41:58,760
Can you hold down the dash and
do like the dash jump?

757
00:41:59,120 --> 00:42:01,520
You know what I'm talking about?
OK, you can do that.

758
00:42:01,520 --> 00:42:04,120
You don't have to dash and then
and then jump quick like you do

759
00:42:04,120 --> 00:42:08,160
in the.
You've got me second guessing

760
00:42:08,160 --> 00:42:09,200
it.
I'm pretty sure you can just

761
00:42:09,200 --> 00:42:11,880
hold it down, but don't hold me
to that because I'm not sure.

762
00:42:13,280 --> 00:42:17,120
But yeah, if.
It's supposed to be like X8 then

763
00:42:17,120 --> 00:42:19,360
I'm sure it's in there if you're
holding your dash button.

764
00:42:19,520 --> 00:42:22,320
Yeah, I think, I think it is.
I think it is.

765
00:42:23,280 --> 00:42:25,840
So tags and double attacks are
just not in there at all.

766
00:42:26,040 --> 00:42:28,840
No, those are not in there.
Metals are not in there.

767
00:42:28,840 --> 00:42:32,320
Grading's not in there, it's
just basically like the

768
00:42:32,320 --> 00:42:37,520
original, like how an SNES take
on Mega Man XA is pretty much

769
00:42:37,800 --> 00:42:40,960
what it is.
I I've seen the graphics I feel

770
00:42:40,960 --> 00:42:44,600
like it does look like a step up
of of SNES.

771
00:42:44,600 --> 00:42:46,560
It's what leads leads me to
believe that it was built from

772
00:42:46,560 --> 00:42:48,680
the ground up.
Yeah, no, it is.

773
00:42:48,680 --> 00:42:51,800
It's it's definitely not a
replica of the SNES ones.

774
00:42:51,800 --> 00:42:56,720
It I would know because I, I, I
just know how the, the SNES ones

775
00:42:56,720 --> 00:43:00,400
play and it's not like that.
Are any of the fights noticeably

776
00:43:00,400 --> 00:43:02,040
different?
Like other than other than the

777
00:43:02,040 --> 00:43:04,840
extra ones, obviously, but like,
did you notice anything that's

778
00:43:04,840 --> 00:43:07,520
stuck out to you about the
fights like some?

779
00:43:07,560 --> 00:43:10,480
Of them are yeah, some of them
are different where it's like

780
00:43:11,000 --> 00:43:15,160
every boss pretty much does what
they were did in X8.

781
00:43:15,720 --> 00:43:18,920
But like some of them have like
different special moves, like

782
00:43:18,920 --> 00:43:21,400
like the like the move that they
do when they're at like half

783
00:43:21,400 --> 00:43:24,800
health, like the panda one
bamboo pandemonium.

784
00:43:24,800 --> 00:43:27,080
He has.
Remember he had like that mega

785
00:43:27,080 --> 00:43:29,640
punch that could like almost one
shot you if you got a hit.

786
00:43:29,840 --> 00:43:32,560
I think it did one shot you if
you got hit you it's like jump

787
00:43:32,560 --> 00:43:34,880
at the right time or something.
I forget how you dodge it.

788
00:43:34,960 --> 00:43:38,400
So he doesn't have that.
He has like this weird like claw

789
00:43:38,400 --> 00:43:41,440
attack move that like kind of
like follows you like he will

790
00:43:41,440 --> 00:43:44,760
like start clawing, but like one
at a time and you just got to

791
00:43:44,960 --> 00:43:47,760
dodge that like a certain amount
of times before it ends.

792
00:43:49,960 --> 00:43:53,080
Gravity Antonian, his special
movie.

793
00:43:53,080 --> 00:43:55,280
Remember when he had like the
blocks that would fall?

794
00:43:56,440 --> 00:43:59,240
Like, Oh yeah, that one
definitely killed you instantly,

795
00:43:59,240 --> 00:44:01,360
right?
No, it just did a crap ton of

796
00:44:01,360 --> 00:44:04,760
damage in this game.
They don't stop coming like

797
00:44:04,760 --> 00:44:07,080
once.
Once they're on the screen, he

798
00:44:07,080 --> 00:44:10,560
it's there until he's dead.
I don't remember if it was that

799
00:44:10,560 --> 00:44:13,040
way in the original.
I no I don't think so.

800
00:44:13,600 --> 00:44:15,640
The same the same with optic
sunflower.

801
00:44:15,640 --> 00:44:20,040
Like when the lasers come
crashing down on you, those

802
00:44:20,200 --> 00:44:22,680
those don't stop coming like
they, they're, they're there

803
00:44:22,680 --> 00:44:24,480
until you kill it.
Oh, OK.

804
00:44:24,480 --> 00:44:29,560
Because she she in the original
was actively like, launching the

805
00:44:29,680 --> 00:44:32,240
lasers, Yeah.
Yeah, no, she's like she's

806
00:44:32,240 --> 00:44:34,840
teleporting around and stuff
while they're, you know, this

807
00:44:34,840 --> 00:44:37,720
this targeter, this like
crosshair thing is following you

808
00:44:38,240 --> 00:44:40,320
and is like shooting like laser
beams at you.

809
00:44:41,080 --> 00:44:44,400
So yeah, the the bosses aren't
one for one, but they're they're

810
00:44:44,400 --> 00:44:48,200
very similar.
Like what is it burn rooster

811
00:44:48,280 --> 00:44:51,560
like he does like the fire
pillars on the side so you can't

812
00:44:51,560 --> 00:44:54,240
wall jump anymore?
Yeah, Chief Burn Rooster.

813
00:44:54,520 --> 00:44:58,040
Yeah, he he's Chief Burn
Rooster.

814
00:44:58,040 --> 00:45:02,880
Chief Burn Rooster.
Yeah, yeah.

815
00:45:02,880 --> 00:45:07,680
So he has that in the D make.
I'm trying to think if there's

816
00:45:07,680 --> 00:45:11,760
any other differences that I
that I saw that like really

817
00:45:11,760 --> 00:45:14,320
stuck out.
Kind of neat that there's some

818
00:45:14,320 --> 00:45:16,560
differences though.
So it also gives another level

819
00:45:16,560 --> 00:45:19,520
of wanting to play because
you'll get to experience it a

820
00:45:19,520 --> 00:45:23,160
little bit differently, not just
artistically, but you know,

821
00:45:23,160 --> 00:45:25,040
mechanically.
So that's pretty nice.

822
00:45:25,760 --> 00:45:27,960
Yeah, no, it's different enough.
It's definitely not a one for

823
00:45:27,960 --> 00:45:30,640
one.
And if you like I said, if you

824
00:45:30,640 --> 00:45:33,960
don't want to play like the the
Super, the Super grindy version

825
00:45:33,960 --> 00:45:36,560
of like X8 with like trying to
Max out everybody, you don't

826
00:45:36,560 --> 00:45:40,240
have to do that with this one or
like trying to like get a AAA

827
00:45:40,400 --> 00:45:43,120
like like you don't have to.
It's just it's not in the game.

828
00:45:43,440 --> 00:45:47,240
It's just basically SNES Mega
Man X8.

829
00:45:48,240 --> 00:45:50,120
Nice.
So how do you how do you get a

830
00:45:50,120 --> 00:45:51,840
hold of it?
Do you have to play it on an on

831
00:45:51,840 --> 00:45:54,560
an SNES emulator or is it like
it's own separate?

832
00:45:54,560 --> 00:45:55,920
Yeah, it's its own separate
thing.

833
00:45:56,160 --> 00:45:59,120
You just download it, it, it
takes like 2 seconds and you're

834
00:45:59,120 --> 00:46:02,400
ready to go.
Has its own like key binds and

835
00:46:02,400 --> 00:46:05,640
all that stuff.
Its own options.

836
00:46:05,640 --> 00:46:09,200
Like there's a ton of options
that you can go in and mess

837
00:46:09,200 --> 00:46:12,640
around with.
Next week the wife is going to

838
00:46:12,640 --> 00:46:16,520
be in Ohio for work, which means
my nights will be free.

839
00:46:16,520 --> 00:46:18,840
Maybe I'll have to check out
some of these mods.

840
00:46:19,200 --> 00:46:21,880
Modded games.
I know like the tomorrow mod

841
00:46:21,880 --> 00:46:23,560
sounds really good, I'm not
going to lie.

842
00:46:24,080 --> 00:46:26,600
It is very good.
I haven't been playing anything

843
00:46:26,600 --> 00:46:29,840
modded, I've actually been
playing the game that we're

844
00:46:29,840 --> 00:46:33,800
going to be covering next week,
so I'm not going to talk about

845
00:46:33,800 --> 00:46:34,800
it here.
Fair enough.

846
00:46:34,800 --> 00:46:39,960
So Steve then I saw in the
discord recently that you, my

847
00:46:39,960 --> 00:46:43,000
friend, I think, are the first
of us three to buy a switch too.

848
00:46:43,960 --> 00:46:45,400
Yeah, and I haven't played it
yet either.

849
00:46:45,400 --> 00:46:48,640
I've unboxed it.
I've downloaded Mario Kart World

850
00:46:49,000 --> 00:46:50,920
and I plan on playing it this
weekend.

851
00:46:52,400 --> 00:46:53,840
Alicia has.
To it, you know.

852
00:46:54,320 --> 00:46:58,240
Yeah, Alicia's been playing
while we've been filming, so you

853
00:46:58,240 --> 00:47:00,360
know, she's got the the head
start on me.

854
00:47:01,120 --> 00:47:04,040
He's like, damn it, I want to
get off this so I can go in

855
00:47:04,040 --> 00:47:05,680
there and play it.
So what?

856
00:47:05,920 --> 00:47:08,520
What was the game that that that
sold you on it?

857
00:47:08,520 --> 00:47:10,360
What are you?
What are you aiming to play

858
00:47:10,360 --> 00:47:12,600
first?
I figured I was going to buy one

859
00:47:12,600 --> 00:47:18,280
anyway regardless, but the I
want to play Super Mario Kart

860
00:47:18,360 --> 00:47:22,600
World or whatever it's called,
but I'm thinking about picking

861
00:47:22,600 --> 00:47:29,880
up the Bravely Default remaster
but there I don't.

862
00:47:31,120 --> 00:47:33,960
Donkey Kong Bonanza does not
look good, so it's not that.

863
00:47:34,280 --> 00:47:38,800
A lot of people seem to think
it's very good and, and, and I

864
00:47:38,800 --> 00:47:41,960
would agree with you initially,
I did not think it it, it looks

865
00:47:41,960 --> 00:47:45,040
good, but a lot of trustworthy
sources that that I look to for

866
00:47:45,040 --> 00:47:46,880
this kind of thing say it's very
good.

867
00:47:48,640 --> 00:47:51,680
Well, I'll have to look into it.
I haven't really given it a fair

868
00:47:52,120 --> 00:47:55,920
shot either to look at, but I
just.

869
00:47:56,000 --> 00:47:57,760
Know one hour speed runs of it
and stuff.

870
00:47:58,280 --> 00:48:01,920
Like, really?
Because they figured out how to,

871
00:48:01,920 --> 00:48:04,600
how to manipulate everything to
do like skips and things like,

872
00:48:05,040 --> 00:48:07,320
you know, there's like, there's
like that aspect of it.

873
00:48:07,320 --> 00:48:09,640
But well, I mean, look at the
way the game is designed.

874
00:48:09,640 --> 00:48:12,600
You can't tell me that, that,
that, that any designer like

875
00:48:12,600 --> 00:48:15,280
human intelligence hasn't
reached a point to cover every

876
00:48:15,280 --> 00:48:17,440
contingency that that game could
possibly have.

877
00:48:17,440 --> 00:48:19,240
It's.
Crazy.

878
00:48:19,680 --> 00:48:23,840
So I mean, I know like, you know
it, the Switch is like 7 years

879
00:48:23,840 --> 00:48:28,360
old or whatever, 8 years old.
And so I know that they're just

880
00:48:28,360 --> 00:48:30,280
going to reset their line.
They're going to make a new

881
00:48:30,280 --> 00:48:34,120
Mario, a new Zelda, a new Smash,
and, you know, new Donkey Kong,

882
00:48:34,120 --> 00:48:37,280
all this stuff.
And I just kind of wanted to be

883
00:48:37,280 --> 00:48:38,720
in front of it rather than
behind it.

884
00:48:39,360 --> 00:48:41,760
Yeah, I know.
A new Smash game is definitely

885
00:48:41,760 --> 00:48:45,240
going to have me at the front of
the desk wanting a switch to for

886
00:48:45,240 --> 00:48:47,920
sure.
I'm a sucker for the Smash

887
00:48:47,920 --> 00:48:50,880
games, even if they end up being
kind of lukewarm.

888
00:48:51,800 --> 00:48:54,000
Yeah, I got to get them.
Yeah.

889
00:48:54,360 --> 00:48:58,160
Pokémon Legend ZA might tip me
over, although it is coming out

890
00:48:58,160 --> 00:49:01,520
with a regular Switch version.
But it does, you know, I, I, I

891
00:49:01,520 --> 00:49:04,040
really enjoy Legends, Legends
RCS.

892
00:49:04,040 --> 00:49:07,680
So if it's another game in that
vein, I, I really want to play

893
00:49:07,680 --> 00:49:09,600
it too.
I don't really have a lot to say

894
00:49:09,600 --> 00:49:12,000
about switch to yet, so.
All right, well, we'll be

895
00:49:12,000 --> 00:49:14,000
looking for updates on that.
Yeah, Yeah.

896
00:49:14,960 --> 00:49:16,560
All right, I.
Think they got they got Game

897
00:49:16,560 --> 00:49:20,880
Cube games so.
That that's a big plus.

898
00:49:21,040 --> 00:49:24,160
I'm kind of sad that, I mean,
it's understandable, but like

899
00:49:24,160 --> 00:49:25,720
I'm kind of sad it's not for
Switch 1.

900
00:49:26,680 --> 00:49:30,640
Supposedly like they're
launching some to like the new

901
00:49:30,760 --> 00:49:33,480
like like Fire Emblem Path of
Radiance on it too, which is

902
00:49:33,480 --> 00:49:36,800
going to like destroy the value
of the of that game as a

903
00:49:36,800 --> 00:49:40,200
collection piece.
That's OK Availability is more

904
00:49:40,200 --> 00:49:43,000
important than collectibility.
Yeah, it does need to be taken

905
00:49:43,000 --> 00:49:44,800
down a peg.
It's like 300 bucks.

906
00:49:44,800 --> 00:49:46,840
It's just ways you want that's.
That's crazy.

907
00:49:46,920 --> 00:49:50,640
Yeah, but I am I am looking
forward to some some GameCube

908
00:49:51,360 --> 00:49:52,960
reprints.
I actually think, you know, for

909
00:49:52,960 --> 00:49:56,640
the 20 bucks a year or whatever
it is, the Nintendo Switch

910
00:49:56,640 --> 00:49:59,040
Online or they're calling it
something else now, it's like

911
00:49:59,040 --> 00:50:01,240
Nintendo Switch classics or
something like that.

912
00:50:02,360 --> 00:50:05,560
Wait a minute.
I only pay like $3 right now, or

913
00:50:05,560 --> 00:50:08,080
three or five anyway.
I think it's 3 to $5.

914
00:50:08,080 --> 00:50:09,960
Yeah, yeah.
What is it going up to 20?

915
00:50:10,200 --> 00:50:12,920
No, it's 2020 a year.
All a year.

916
00:50:12,920 --> 00:50:13,520
OK.
Yeah.

917
00:50:13,520 --> 00:50:14,560
Or I misheard that.
It might.

918
00:50:14,560 --> 00:50:18,360
It might go up a little bit, but
it's a really cheap subscription

919
00:50:18,360 --> 00:50:20,080
for for everything you get, I
think.

920
00:50:20,080 --> 00:50:21,840
Oh yeah, absolutely. 20.
Yeah, it's nothing.

921
00:50:23,080 --> 00:50:24,200
I was going to say like 20.
What?

922
00:50:24,200 --> 00:50:27,400
Like what the heck?
I mean, you know, I was just

923
00:50:27,400 --> 00:50:30,440
looking at our, our, our
subscriptions and not to get all

924
00:50:30,440 --> 00:50:33,960
old guy on here, but we have
like one extra profile on our

925
00:50:33,960 --> 00:50:36,200
Netflix and it's costing us $36
a month.

926
00:50:36,640 --> 00:50:38,480
And I'm like, oh, I don't think
so.

927
00:50:38,760 --> 00:50:43,840
Yeah, Nope.
Not, not, not lately, sorry.

928
00:50:45,560 --> 00:50:50,960
But yeah, anyway, so I guess we
will call it here guys.

929
00:50:50,960 --> 00:50:53,360
So we'll say get our get our
plugs in.

930
00:50:53,400 --> 00:50:55,960
So if this is your first time
joining us, thank you so much.

931
00:50:56,560 --> 00:50:59,440
Typically we would be reviewing
a retro game.

932
00:50:59,440 --> 00:51:00,640
We do that every couple of
weeks.

933
00:51:00,640 --> 00:51:03,720
I have enough time to play it
and let it marinate.

934
00:51:04,600 --> 00:51:07,280
But every once in a while on an
off week episode, we like to

935
00:51:07,280 --> 00:51:09,040
give an update on what we are up
to.

936
00:51:09,040 --> 00:51:10,800
And that's what this episode is
here today.

937
00:51:10,800 --> 00:51:13,760
Sometimes we share what we're
playing, sometimes we talk about

938
00:51:13,760 --> 00:51:16,920
gaming news, sometimes we talk
about a console draft or

939
00:51:16,920 --> 00:51:19,160
something like that.
So, you know, take a look at our

940
00:51:19,160 --> 00:51:21,600
backlog and check out some of
the off week episodes that we've

941
00:51:21,600 --> 00:51:24,160
done.
But our typical shtick is

942
00:51:24,160 --> 00:51:29,000
looking at a retro game from 20
years back or more that a guest

943
00:51:29,000 --> 00:51:31,520
brings on the episode for us to
enter into our retro game

944
00:51:31,520 --> 00:51:36,760
league.
I would like to thank our

945
00:51:36,760 --> 00:51:40,560
Discord community in particular
because they they're a lot of

946
00:51:40,560 --> 00:51:42,480
fun to hang out with from week
to week and they really make

947
00:51:42,480 --> 00:51:44,640
doing this podcast worth it.
So if you're listening to this,

948
00:51:44,920 --> 00:51:47,400
you have been for a while, think
about joining the Discord.

949
00:51:47,400 --> 00:51:53,680
You get 24 hour access to all
this, all of this and you get to

950
00:51:53,680 --> 00:51:56,080
join our awesome little corner
of the Internet where we all

951
00:51:56,080 --> 00:51:58,320
hang out and play sometimes
retro games really can play

952
00:51:58,320 --> 00:52:00,040
anything together.
Just make some new friends.

953
00:52:01,720 --> 00:52:04,960
And you can find us anywhere,
including where you're listening

954
00:52:04,960 --> 00:52:07,360
to us now.
But anywhere you find podcasts

955
00:52:07,360 --> 00:52:09,840
or prefer to listen to us, even
on YouTube to go check out our

956
00:52:09,840 --> 00:52:12,560
videos over there, find out what
we really look like and ruin the

957
00:52:12,560 --> 00:52:15,160
magic.
But you can go look at all the

958
00:52:15,160 --> 00:52:17,480
visual elements we put on there.
Dan does a good job editing

959
00:52:17,480 --> 00:52:20,720
these episodes for us.
And if you are on a listening

960
00:52:20,720 --> 00:52:24,680
platform and you've been you've
been following the show for a

961
00:52:24,680 --> 00:52:27,880
while, think about leaving us a
fair rating or review.

962
00:52:27,880 --> 00:52:31,160
Let us know how how we're doing
One to five stars.

963
00:52:31,160 --> 00:52:32,720
Give us some comments.
Yeah.

964
00:52:32,720 --> 00:52:34,760
Ring the damn bell and give us a
thumbs up.

965
00:52:35,000 --> 00:52:40,200
Ring the bell.
So yeah, our theme music is done

966
00:52:40,200 --> 00:52:42,440
by Cubby.
Check him out at his band camp.

967
00:52:42,440 --> 00:52:47,160
He's awesome.
If you like chip tunes and this

968
00:52:47,160 --> 00:52:50,480
podcast is edited and produced
by all three of us, what a bunch

969
00:52:50,480 --> 00:52:52,280
of three talented guys we have
here.

970
00:52:52,400 --> 00:52:55,240
So join us next week or we're
going to talk about a doozy of a

971
00:52:55,240 --> 00:52:59,480
game, which is Ocarina of Time,
brought to us by a streamer.

972
00:52:59,480 --> 00:53:02,160
RiRi yells.
Who's going to come onto our

973
00:53:02,160 --> 00:53:08,560
show and vie for why Ocarina of
Time should win the cable club

974
00:53:08,560 --> 00:53:11,680
league for 2025?
And I'm looking forward to that.

975
00:53:11,920 --> 00:53:15,120
Can we just handle the belt now?
She's going to say perfect

976
00:53:15,120 --> 00:53:17,760
scores.
Yeah, I think she's it's pretty

977
00:53:17,760 --> 00:53:21,760
well tilted amongst this crowd.
I I might drag the average down.

978
00:53:21,760 --> 00:53:24,120
We'll see.
I prefer.

979
00:53:24,120 --> 00:53:27,520
To not allowed to.
Not allowed to until you beat

980
00:53:27,520 --> 00:53:30,240
it.
Isn't the fact that I've started

981
00:53:30,240 --> 00:53:32,520
it and not beat it saying saying
something?

982
00:53:32,520 --> 00:53:33,800
I mean it's.
Something about you?

983
00:53:34,120 --> 00:53:36,400
I beat I beat Oracle of Ages the
first time.

984
00:53:36,800 --> 00:53:40,280
I am curious to see what his
beef is though when that episode

985
00:53:40,280 --> 00:53:43,800
does come if he does have any.
Illegitimate beef, that's what

986
00:53:43,800 --> 00:53:45,880
it is.
Yeah, I'll, I'll talk about what

987
00:53:45,880 --> 00:53:48,240
a deranged human being I am on
that episode.

988
00:53:48,480 --> 00:53:52,560
We can all hear that.
So for that, join us next time

989
00:53:52,840 --> 00:53:55,800
in our deep psychological
exploration of playing through

990
00:53:55,800 --> 00:53:59,360
Ocarina of Time.
But for now, game over, fellas.

991
00:53:59,720 --> 00:54:01,520
Game over.
Game over.
